Writing letters to MPs easily
- It only takes a few clicks

Writing letters to Members of Parliament (MPs) in the UK can be automated or streamlined using specialized tools that identify your representative based on your postcode and facilitate sending emails.

Key Tools and Methods

WriteToThem: The most widely used, free, and independent service (run by charity mySociety) that allows you to email your MP, local councillors, and other representatives.

MP Letters (postalettertoyourmp.co.uk): An AI-powered tool that drafts personalized letters and can send physical, tracked letters and emails to your MP.

Work Rights Centre AI Tool: A tool that uses AI to turn your personal experiences into a formal letter, which you can then edit and send via your own email.

Campaign Tools: Organisations often use tools that integrate with WriteToThem to allow supporters to send tailored messages.

How to Automate or Streamline the Process

1. Find your MP: Visit www.writetothem.com or the official UK Parliament website and enter your postcode.
2. Use a Template: Many campaign websites provide template letters that you can customize to explain why the issue matters to you.
Draft and Personalize: While tools can automate the address and structure, personalized letters are more effective than identical templated, spam-like messages, which some platforms may block.
3. Send: Use the platform to send the email directly to your MP.

Important Considerations

Constituency Check: You can only contact your own MP through these services to ensure your correspondence is valid.

Authenticity: Some tools, such as the one from the Work Rights Centre, intentionally do not "auto-send," encouraging users to edit and send from their own email to maintain authenticity and avoid being flagged as spam.

Responses: You should receive an automated confirmation and a response from your MP, usually within a few weeks.

Alternative Methods
Emailing Directly: You can find your MP's email address on the Parliament website and send it directly from your email client.
Postal Letter: Letters can be sent for free to: House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA.

Limitations
Block on Spam: WriteToThem will block mass-mailed, identically worded messages to ensure they are seen as genuine constituent concerns.
Effectiveness: Personal letters are generally taken more seriously than generic, mass-produced emails.

Assistive Technology

Assistive technology (AT) refers to products, equipment, and systems that enhance learning, working, and daily living for people with disabilities, cognitive impairments, or age-related challenges. Examples range from low-tech tools like walkers and writing aids to high-tech solutions like screen readers, power lifts, and smart home automation.

Key Aspects of Assistive Technology

Purpose: AT helps individuals maintain or improve independence, safety, and quality of life by supporting mobility, communication, hearing, vision, and cognitive functions.
Types:
Mobility Aids: Wheelchairs, walkers, crutches.
Cognitive Aids: Memory aids, reminder apps, organizers.
Communication Devices: Speech recognition software, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices.
Sensory Aids: Hearing aids, screen readers, magnifiers.
Environmental Controls: Smart home devices, automatic door openers.
Access & Need: Over 2.5 billion people worldwide need at least one assistive product, a figure expected to rise to 3.5 billion by 2050.

Common Examples of AT

Screen Readers & Magnifiers: For visual impairments.
Hearing Aids & Captions: For auditory impairments.
Mobility Devices: Wheelchairs, braces, walkers.
Environmental Control Units: Smart speakers, voice-controlled lighting.
Software: Time management apps, speech-to-text software.
Daily Living Aids: Special cutlery, dressing aids.

How to Access Assistive Technology

Assessments: Occupational therapists or specialists can evaluate needs.
Funding & Support: Some devices are covered by health insurance, social care services, or educational funding.
Resources: Organizations like the Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA) offer comprehensive guides, while local council services may provide "Technology Enabled Care".

How to Explain the Mental Load to Your Partner

There is a kind of work happening in your household right now that never actually appears on any to-do list. It happens constantly in the background, like an app that never closes, and the person doing it is usually exhausted.

Harvard researcher Allison Daminger spent years studying how households function and identified four distinct stages of what she calls cognitive labour: anticipating, identifying, deciding, and monitoring.

Here is where the friction usually happens: most task sharing in relationships only ever touches the third stage – deciding. Someone asks "What's for dinner?", a decision gets made, and a task gets done. But the anticipating, identifying, and monitoring stay entirely with one person.

This is exactly why hearing "Just tell me what to do" is so frustrating. It's well-meaning, but it doesn't fix the core issue, because the anticipation stage is the heaviest part. Knowing the school shoes are getting too small or that the car needs a service – that's the real work. By the time you've anticipated a problem and identified the options, half the cognitive labour is already done. Being handed the execution isn't relief; it's just offloading the easy part.

If you want to go deeper on this and get a clearer picture of what's happening in your own home, I've put together a free tool specifically designed to help you assess and map your mental load. The link is in my bio. Follow along here at StepChange Living for more research breakdowns and practical tools.

Here's the direct link to the free tool mentioned in this video. Enter $0 when prompted for a price, pop in your email address, and it'll land in your inbox shortly — check your spam folder if you don't see it.

Skipping daycare... straight to higher education

Sometimes parenting doesn’t pause for life…
and life doesn’t pause for parenting.

So you do both.

And yes, this moment is adorable.
But it also says a lot.

Because behind moments like this is a parent figuring it out in real time: balancing growth, responsibility, and showing up all at once.

At the International Parenting & Health Institute, this actually hits home for us.

Our classes are online, and we welcome mothers, especially those transitioning careers, to have their babies and toddlers right there with them.

And honestly?

It’s one of the most beautiful parts of what we do.

Babies pop into our Zoom calls
Toddlers watch, engage, and move around
Moms feel more relaxed, supported, and present

Because they don’t have to choose between their child and their future.

And here’s the part people don’t always realize:

Children don’t need perfect silence to grow.
They grow through real life, real connection, real environments.

Even this little one?

Not “disrupting.”
Just… getting an early start 😄

Why Bilingual People Think Differently

#didyouknow #history #languagelearning #education #viralshort

Do you act differently when you speak another language?

Why? Because language is more than words, it carries the emotional and cultural “software” of the people who speak it.

Even decision-making changes. Research suggests that when people think through problems in a second language, they often become more logical and less emotionally influenced.

At Airlearn, we explore how language changes not just communication, but the way you think.
