4 ways to improve your differentiation
Addressing diversity in the classroom needn’t involve a huge amount of extra planning, says Helen Drury, who shares four principles for good practice

Some people earn a PhD from some American or European university and so they begin to consider themselves part of Western academia and its ideology, values, and standards; they then begin to scorn the history of their own Ummah.
O you infatuated by the West! - my words here address a recurring phenomenon and are not directed at a particular individual - as a graduate of their universities myself just as you are, and as someone who excelled in their sciences just as you did, if not better:
🔸 "If you do not believe the knowledge that Allah revealed to Muhammad ﷺ to be superior to all other types of sciences, and that without it, nations would plunge into profound ignorance and darkness -- no matter how bright their cities have become, or how numerous their universities are -- then we are better off without you and your education.
🔸 If you do not believe that one hour of the many hours of torture that Bilal or Khabab endured on the scorching hot sand of Mecca; all while remaining steadfast & patient in support of the true religion; if you do not believe that a short while of what they had faced is better than the lifetimes those disbelieving professors spend in their labs or on their research, then we are better off without you and your education.
🔸 If Sumayyah, the mother of Ammar ibn Yasir is not greater in your eye than those negligent, disbelieving women in the west, then indeed you have not learned nor reasoned.
It will not be long before everything you see and are fascinated by vanishes, the horn is blown, and the earth that you know is changed, the truth becomes evident to everyone, and Allah sets up the scales of justice.
On that day, neither wealth, nor children, strength, education, or degrees will be of any significance, except for the one who comes to Allah with a sound heart; a heart driven by Tawhid, certain of the mighty truths, free of idolatry, hypocrisy, ostentation, and arrogance.
{Those gifted with knowledge ˹clearly˺ see that what has been revealed to you from your Lord ˹O Prophet˺ is the truth, and that it guides to the Path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy.} Surat Saba 34:6.
