It's called the concept of 'Narrative Identity' (first researched by Dan McAdams in 1985).
Your personal narratives (and how you craft them) have a HUGE amount of power. Grant and Dutton's research (2012) found that simply making subtle edits to how you define a previous life experience (story-editing) can HUGELY impact how empowered you feel and enhance your sense of personal meaning and purpose.
Importantly, it's NOT about denial - It's about conscious re-appraisal.
So, here's a question to get you thinking...
How will you redefine your previous life experiences (especially the challenging ones) to focus on growth and hope? What did they teach you? How did they make you stronger? How did they refine your character? And how can you bring these things into the narrative that you share about these experiences?
