Say NO to Ramadan pressure

I received hundreds of messages when I wrote my initial post on this topic. And yesterday I was talking to a sister and I could sense the despair in her state. Despair that she's not ready for Ramadan. Despair that She's not prepared anything for Ramadan. Despair that she won't be able to do much this Ramadan because she hasn't batch cooked, decorated, bought Islamic books or prepared Ramadan reading basket.

Sisters, when you scroll down your feeds on Social Media, and see how much people are doing, you can't help but compare. Feelings of guilt and shame could easily crawl up your mind at night, and you start hating Ramadan because rather than helping you uplift your spirits, it's making you feel low spiritually.

STOP RIGHT THERE. Please don't do this. This is from Shaitan. Say NO to shaitan's whisperings.

What if I told you

You can have perfectly fine and productive Ramadan without batch cooking? You don't have to meal plan for the entire month ahead of time

You don't have to decorate your house if you can't do it

You don't have to buy books for your children if you can't afford to

You don't have to do your Eid shopping now if you don't have the means

We are all walking through different stages of life. I was once a young mother, full of energy and only two or three kids to tend to. Now I'm older and have twice as more children, I don't the energy to do all that stuff anymore. You see, everyone is on a different page. Those who go extra mile, mashaAllah may Allah bless them with more. Those who can't do these things, it doesn't mean you will have less of a Ramadan than the rest of us.

Don't put pressure on yourselves, it's not worth it at all. It affects your mental and emotional well-being. Don't attach so much meaning to these outwardly actions but rather focus on what you can do to get grounded and become a stronger believer from within.

If anything, just start reading a portion of the Qur’an daily and make effort to understand the meanings of the verses. Do this daily and increase it daily throughout Ramadan.

May Allah grant us all to welcome Ramadan in a much better state of imaan inshaAllah and leave it with strengthened relationship with Qur’an.
