Advice about homeschooling
By a home schooling mother
So you’ve attempted to re-enter into mainstream schools as an in year transfer but to of no avail. Subsequently there has been no further allocation of a state school space offerred by your local authority.
Bear in mind that the pandemic caused severe disruption across the entire educational sector. So it’s not going to be as easy to secure a space ‘in year’ and once everything gets back on track fully you should have more success Insha Allah.
I’m assuming you are wanting to resume a full time education at school for your child, once a respective space is found. In the interim you are home educating through use of tuition. This is fine and is certainly a good way to supplement and enhance your child’s learning needs. I have to say you are still very much so restricted in providing an ‘out sourced’ education until everything gets back on track. As classes have either ceased or are delivered remotely.
I would thus recommend that you seek out some learning platforms, some of which are free online portals and some that are chargeable. Oak National Academy is a good government programme which you should access.
You should also find some tutor led sessions in subjects that you would like your child to learn. There are a range of opportunities, look at Facebook groups and organisations offering sessions online. You should steer some of this learning yourself as well, to keep costs low. Through accessing material online as well as printing online material. Purchase some workbooks in specific subjects this will aid your child. There’s a range of material out there that can really assist your child effectively.
Develop good reading habits, by encouraging to read both fiction and non fiction books. Look at the national curriculum to steer the learning in accordance to your child’s age, stage, ability and aptitude. You could even use the curriculum subject syllabuses to help you remain in line with a year 8 student within a school.
Elective Home Education offers diversity and enables children to flourish in their learning and development at their own pace and ability, it also allows for additional learning, such as life skills to ensue. A range of learning really does enrich a child’s experience as the parent helps, supports and underpins this. Parents usually enhance this further through first hand experiences, by providing trips, visits to galleries and museums, meet in social groups etc.
In due course it will become much clearer, as I appreciate you want to provide a full on education, and the pandemic is hindering this. But it shouldn’t be long now Insha Allah.
If anything your child can and have the ability to excel in their learning by simply being out of school as there’s so much to offer. But don’t worry about a rigorous full on programme, your child is absorbing and learning information all the time.

One time or the other, we will all be faced with a situation where one of our loved ones will return to Allāh SWT. We need to ensure their final rites are carried out the best we can, correctly according to our Sharī’ah, and free from innovative practices. I pray that this information helps us in doing so.
