The phrase "What did you get up to?" is a casual way to ask someone about what they did or their activities over the weekend.
It’s a friendly and informal expression often used in conversational English.
If you prefer a different wording, you could simply ask, "What did you do over the weekend?" so now you know two ways to ask😉
Which one do you prefer?

One common idiom is "hit the nail on the head," which means to describe exactly what is causing a situation or problem, or to say something that is exactly right.

Sentence: When Sarah pointed out that the team's communication issues were behind their recent failures, she really hit the nail on the head.
Как бы вы перевели эту идиому на русский, может, у нас есть эквивалент?🤔

Awell-known traditional English proverb (пословица) is "The early bird catches the worm."

This tells that those who take action early or are proactive often get the greatest rewards (награда).

### Modern Scenario

Scenario: Job Searching

Imagine a recent college graduate who is entering the job market. As graduation approaches (приближается), they notice that several companies are scheduling (назначают даты) early interviews.
However, they decide to procrastinate, thinking they have plenty of time after graduation to start applying (подавать заявление).

When they finally begin their job search (поиск) a few weeks post-graduation, many of the positions(должность) they were interested in have already been filled by other proactive graduates (выпускник) who applied earlier. They find themselves competing (конкурировать) for fewer(меньшее) opportunities (возможности) , resulting in a longer and more stressful job search.

Application of the Proverb:

In this situation, the graduate missed the chance to apply early, which represents the "early bird." Had they started their job hunt ahead of time, they could have landed a position (заполучить должность) before graduation, increasing their chances of success.

"The early bird catches the worm" serves as a reminder(служит напоминанием) to seize (хватать) opportunities as they arise (появляются).

Do you have any life examples that can describe our proverb?

I will tell you mine soon😉
Wanna hear? ❤️

Hey, my dears 🌹!
I am back 🎉🎉🎉. I was very sick and had quite a tough (тяжёлое) time.

Nevertheless, I am now here with you, and we will continue to delve into (нырять) the beauty of the English language together.
I have made a few videos to explain our previous (предыдущие) exercises.
Unfortunately (к сожалению) , my voice is not fully back, but I can already speak 🎉!

I have prepared an idiom for you today.
SPILL THE BEANS 😁

Do you have any idea how to translate it?

A very common idiom is "spill the beans."
Spill - рассыпать, разливать.

This means to reveal a secret (раскрыть секрет) or disclose (раскрыть) information prematurely (раньше времени).

Sentence:

After weeks of speculation (домыслы) , Jenny finally spilled the beans about her surprise birthday party plans for Mark.

Do you have your own real life experience of spilling the beans?
