Better to lose the world and keep your soul than to please the world and lose Christ.
β€œTo read Scripture without a desire to dig deep into its hidden truths is to merely scrape the surface and miss its gold nuggets.” β€”Ray Comfort

β€œHe is not served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.” Acts 17:25

Why life AND breath?

Lest we think he got us started and stepped back.

Every breath a gift. Millions upon millions.

β€œI know men and I tell you that Jesus Christ is no mere man. Between Him and every other person in the world there is no possible term of comparison.” β€”Napoleon Bonaparte
Nothing is beneath our Father’s notice or concern, nothing is above his power.

β€œA terror from God fell upon the cities that were around them, so that they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.” Genesis 35:5

The mindset of your adversaries can be altered in a moment.

If hell is real, then the most unloving thing we can do is be unclear about the Gospel.

Vague or "comfortable" Christianity is cruel.

February 6: Student or Scholar?

#Devotional
Exodus 14:1–15:27; John 3:1–21; Song of Solomon 2:4–7

Sometimes we approach God with curiosity, but not with a spirit of humility. We enjoy participating in religious discussions, but forging the link between interpretation and application is difficult for us. We have certain expectations of who He should be for us, but we don’t think about how we should align our lives with Him.

Nicodemusβ€”a Pharisee, a leader of his fellow Jews, and a teacher of Israelβ€”wanted answers from Jesus. He told Him, β€œwe know that you are a teacher who has come from God, for no one is able to perform these signs that you are performing unless God were with him” (John 3:2). Was Jesus a Messiah, like Moses or David, who would restore Israel?

The scholar quickly became a student. Through His answers, Jesus showed Nicodemus that he wasn’t in a place to hold Jesus accountable. Rather, it was the other way around: Nicodemus needed to be challenged and transformed. He was a teacher of Israel, but he didn’t really understand Jesus’ teaching; his questions showed that he was hesitant to even believe Him, despite all the signs.

We might be like Nicodemus, approaching God with off-par expectations. Jesus showed Nicodemus that he had to receive the transforming work of the Holy Spirit. In order to see the kingdom of God and enter into it, we need to do the same.

Are you teachable? Do you approach God ready to learn and apply His words

February 6 - Healings Validate Jesus’ Earthly Ministry

#LifeOfChrist

β€œThe news about Him spread throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all who were ill, those suffering with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, paralytics; and He healed them” (Matthew 4:24).

Jesus’ miraculous healing ministry powerfully augmented the divine veracity of His teaching and preaching ministry. But any completely honest observer will concede that our Lord’s words alone provide sufficient evidence that He was the Messiah. The apostles left everything to follow Him before He did any healing or performed any other miracle. Many who heard and believed when Jesus taught in their villages had no need for healing, and neither did their relatives or friends. In that sense they were like those who believed John the Baptist’s message even though β€œJohn performed no sign” (John 10:41).

Yet in spite of the overwhelming adequacy of Jesus’ verbal teaching, His Father saw fit to provide a healing ministry to supplement it. Alexander Maclaren has written, β€œIt may be doubted whether we have an adequate notion of the immense number of Christ’s miracles. Those recorded are but a small portion of those done. Those early ones were illustrations of the nature of His kingdom; they were His first gifts to His kingdom subjects.”

Concerning the gospel of the kingdom, Hebrews 2:3–4 says, β€œAfter it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.” Like Christ’s words, His healings and other miracles provided a preview of His glorious earthly kingdom.

Ask Yourself

How dependent are you on the specific, visible, measurable acts of God on your behalf? How often does His Word alone brighten your heart, even when your prayers seem to be waiting on His answer? What does one do to get his or her heart operating this way?

It is to glorify God and enjoy him forever.
