🔆 Canada Rethinks Allies Amid Trump Tariff Tensions

📍 A 35% U.S. tariff on Canadian imports despite prior talks has triggered a diplomatic and economic recalibration by Ottawa.

✅ Key Points:
• Trump imposed 35% tariff on Canadian goods on July 10, calling Canada’s 3% Digital Services Tax an “attack on American firms”.
• The tax was imposed despite trade talks and G7 side agreement for a July 21 deal.
• Canada–U.S. are major trade partners; dispute centers on $63B trade surplus in Canada’s favour.
• Ottawa seeks new allies: Canadian PM posted with British PM saying world is turning to “reliable partners”.
• Comparison drawn with India-Nepal standoff (2015–17) where border blockade pushed Nepal towards China.
• Analysts warn U.S. action may damage long-standing allies like Canada with deep strategic and cultural ties.
