The report about Jimma University cited in the following news article from Wazema Radio is not true and is an inaccurate depiction of the reality on the ground. What actually happened was neither related to budget problem nor any other government or institutional reality as depicted there, but rather linked to a temporary system-related problem faced by the entity handling the salary payment our university.
Although our finance department has tried to provide information and explain the matter to the university community, we perfectly understand the feeling that has triggered the complaint, to the extent of reporting to exterbal media sources like Wazema radio.
Indeed, such incidents are not acceptable and shall never be tolerated. And we are discusding with our payment agent on how the reliability of the system could be ensured, that such a delay will never happen.
Our apologies are, therefore, in order, and I would like to assure the university community that such a significant flaws wlll never happen again. It is our joint duty to make sure that any system bottlenecks like this (minor or otherwise), if any, must be kept within tolerable limits, if not made zero.
As for the reporting, we have now officially requested for correction and I hope the Radio will respond and get the facts right.
Office of the president, Jimma University.
