You shouldn’t have to ask for their password.
I would never ask .
I would just expect to know it from being in close proximity with someone.
If someone goes out of their way to hide things from you, then there’s no point in being with them personally.
Transparency and loyalty are the 2 most important things in a relationship.
I’m not saying you should be going through your partners phone. If you have to do that then you shouldn’t even be with the person.
But you should still feel comfortable enough with them that you wouldn’t care if they had your password.
Secrets ruin relationships.
