JUST IN: Kevin McCarthy just lost the 12th bid for Speaker of the House.
13 of the 20 GOP reps who previously voted against Kevin McCarthy flipped their votes this round & voted for Kevin McCarthy this time.
He just picked up 14 more votes. If he gets 4 more, he’ll be Speaker.

Stop attacking Gosar.
Let’s see what a deal looks like and how much we’ve cucked or doomed McCarthy.
This is politics. Not a bake sale.

The public has an idea about Congress that’s completely divorced from reality. Many actually believe that these people are there to represent *them.*
Unless you’ve hired lobbyists in DC to personally ensure that your congressman is representing your interests, you should assume otherwise.

The House will anoint McCarthy in the dead of night and the public will look forward to watching football on Sunday.

I used to think that Trump would have handled the Ukraine situation very differently than Biden has.
But then I remembered that Trump was the President who escalated the situation by taking the unprecedented step of sending lethal aid to Ukraine, at the insistence of the deep state. He boasted about it endlessly, to prove to the NYT journalists that he regularly dined with that he wasn’t a Russian agent.
Trump also took no for an answer when he ordered the generals to withdraw all American forces from Afghanistan.
This is all speculation, but I posit that if Trump were in the same position as Biden with Ukraine facing invasion from Russia, he would have handled the situation more or less in the same way that Biden has.

When Trump arrived at the White House on January 20th of 2017, he desperately wanted to be accepted by the Washington establishment. The spooks, the journalists, the academics and especially the generals in military uniforms adorned with shiny medals.
Just about every misstep of the Trump Presidency was rooted in Trump’s deep desire to be accepted, and even celebrated, by the people he found himself surrounded with when he arrived in Washington DC.
The solution of course was to remake the establishment in his image by firing every Schedule C appointee on day 1 and replacing them with true ideological loyalists (as Presidents normally do). But he didn’t have the wherewithal to do that.

The CIA briefer who leaked the Ukraine call never should have been anywhere near the Oval Office.
McCarthy certainly wouldn’t be my choice for Speaker of the House, but he is set to be confirmed in the next few hours and any further opposition is an exercise in futility.
Be grateful to the congressmen who extracted important concessions through their opposition to McCarthy in the last several days.

US Marshals and Capitol Police received special “tactical operations” challenge coins for doing the brave task of standing around at the Capitol on January 6th today.

Prominent conservative leader Matt Schlapp accused of groping male campaign staffer
The staffer said that Schlapp invited him up to his room when the two arrived at his hotel, but he declined and tried to get away as quickly as possible.
It’s hard to believe that George Santos is in Congress until you look into 10 other congressmen at random.

Matt Schlapp tried to touch me, too, at his offices in 2016/17 when we were negotiating my headliner spot at CPAC. I recoiled, made a joke about him being the wrong skin color, and added that if he tried it again I would slap him and go public. Maybe that had something to do with him colluding to wreck my career, I don’t know.
