Small businesses exist essentially as a public good. They provide services in their communities that don’t scale and are not intrinsically profitable, and thus can’t be served by large corporations.

In the process of providing these services, like landscaping, carpentry and dry cleaning, they also create jobs and generate lots of revenue for the government in the form of sales tax, payroll tax, etc.

There's a good argument to be made that small businesses generate more public good than charities and shouldn't be taxed at all. But the reality is that the vast majority of small businesses underpay taxes because it's the only way they can continue to provide their inherently unprofitable goods and services.

The Biden IRS wants to shut them all down.
