CHAT. xylitol in chewing gums is an alcohol, as well as sorbitol that is used in cheap sweet crap you give to kids to induce diabetes in them. Erythritol is another kind, also used in sweets. Also there exist Fusel alcohols, which are a side effect of fermentation (Fusel=bad liquor in low german), which are often cause of brutal hangovers. It seems that overall any other molecule other than ethanol even if with a single carbon difference, despite being an alcohol will make you deeply regret drinking it
