Metric vs imperial.
Units can be any size but are ideal when divising by about 120.
Tolerance should fall between one and one tenth of a unit.
This is in line with how humans build and think. When a measurement is very precise it makes sense to use two units. One coarse and one fine.
Ft, inches, fractions of inch are all units that are easy to conceptualize because they are sized to the task.
This room is 12 ft (and 3 in) ((and three thirty twos))
To a tolerance of 1/16th inch.
This room is 3736 mm to a tolerance of 1.6 mm. Retarded.
Likewise saying it's 3.736 meters is meaningless. Everything is 3 or 5 meters. Except people, which are ??? - I always have to convert because it evokes nothing - 140 to 200 cm. If we measured people in decimeters it would fall into line, but we'd still need another unit of precision or a second unit. 17.9 decimeters, it's over.
It doesn't matter if units convert easily because they're not for converting. If you have to convert it why didn't you just use the conversion in the first place? They're for conveying information. They are merely a metaphor.
Also eating frogs and snails is disgusting.
