Portland moves to BAN Texas trade & travel in protest over new abortion law

Portland city council is preparing to vote on an emergency resolution that will seek to cease trading goods and services with Texans and bar state employee business travel - citing the controversial new abortion law enacted in the Lone Star state.

Texas’ SB-8 law, also known as the Texas Heartbeat Act, bans women from having abortions once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which is usually around 6 weeks.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said the city council will hold a vote on Wednesday stating they stand “unified in its belief that all people should have the right to choose if and when they carry a pregnancy.”
