لماذا شبَّه الله
الدنيا بالماء؟

من أروع الأمثال التي ضربها القرآن للدنيا قول الله تعالى:

﴿وَاضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا كَمَاءٍ أَنزَلْنَاهُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَاخْتَلَطَ بِهِ نَبَاتُ الْأَرْضِ فَأَصْبَحَ هَشِيمًا تَذْرُوهُ الرِّيَاحُ﴾.

تأملت هذه الآية،
فوجدت أن تشبيه الدنيا بالماء ليس تشبيهًا عابرًا،
بل ورائه معانٍ تهز القلب
وتدعو الإنسان إلى
مراجعة نفسه.

أول ما يلفت النظر
أن الماء لا تستطيع
أن تمسكه بين يديك طويلًا، فمهما أطبقت عليه أصابعك تسلل منها.
وكذلك الدنيا،
قد تجمع منها ما تشاء،
لكنك في النهاية ستترك
كل شيء خلفك،
ولن تأخذ معك إلا عملك.

ثم انظر إلى الماء...
لا يبقى على حال؛
مرةً سائلًا،
ومرةً بخارًا،
ومرةً جليدًا.

وكذلك الدنيا،
يومٌ تفرح فيه،
ويومٌ تحزن،
يومُ صحة يعقبه مرض،
وغنى قد يتبعه فقر.

فلا تغتر بحالٍ تعيشه،
فإن دوام الحال من المحال.

ومن أجمل المعاني
أن الماء سبب للحياة
إذا استُعمل باعتدال،

لكنه قد يكون سببًا للهلاك
إذا غرق الإنسان فيه.

وكذلك الدنيا؛
من جعلها وسيلةً تعينه على طاعة الله سعد بها،
ومن جعلها أكبر همه،
أغرقته في الهموم والشهوات.

ولهذا قال بعض السلف
كلامًا بليغًا:
السفينة لا يضرها أن تكون
في الماء، وإنما تغرق إذا دخل الماء إليها.

وكذلك المؤمن،
لا يضره أن يعيش في الدنيا، وإنما الخطر أن تسكن الدنيا قلبه وتصبح أكبر همه.

وتأمل أيضًا صفحة
الماء الصافية،
ترى فيها صورتك منعكسة، لكنها ليست الحقيقة
التي تستطيع الإمساك بها.

وكذلك الدنيا،
قد تزين للإنسان ما يشتهي، حتى يظن أن السعادة كلها فيها، ثم يكتشف بعد حين
أن كل ذلك كان سريع الزوال.

ثم ختم الله المثل بمشهد
يهز القلوب؛ ماء ينزل،
ونبات يزدهر،
وأرض تكتسي بالخضرة،
ثم لا يلبث كل ذلك أن يذبل ويصبح هشيمًا تذروه الرياح.

هكذا هي الدنيا...
تزهر قليلًا، ثم ترحل سريعًا.

فلا تجعل قلبك متعلقًا
بما سيرحل،
واجعل تعلقك بمن لا يزول، واعمل لدارٍ لا موت فيها
ولا فراق.

﴿وَالْبَاقِيَاتُ الصَّالِحَاتُ خَيْرٌ عِندَ رَبِّكَ ثَوَابًا وَخَيْرٌ أَمَلًا﴾.

Why did Allah liken
this worldly life to water?

One of the most profound parables the Quran presents regarding worldly life is the saying of Allah Almighty:

*{And present to them the example of the life of this world: [it is] like rain which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it and then it becomes dry remnants, scattered by the winds.}*

Reflecting on this verse,
I found that likening worldly life to water is no mere passing metaphor;
rather, it holds meanings that stir the heart
and call upon a person
to take stock of themselves.

The first thing that strikes one
is that water cannot
be held in your hands for long; no matter how tightly you close your fingers around it, it slips away.
So too is worldly life:
you may gather whatever you wish from it,
but in the end, you will leave
everything behind,
taking nothing with you but your deeds.

Then consider water...
It does not remain in one state;
at times it is liquid,
at times vapor,
and at times ice.

So too is worldly life:
a day of joy,
followed by a day of sorrow;
a day of health followed by illness,
and wealth that may give way to poverty.

Do not be deluded by your current state,
for nothing in this life lasts forever.

Among the most beautiful insights
is that water is a source of life
when used in moderation,

yet it can be a cause of destruction
if one drowns in it.

So too is worldly life:
whoever makes it a means to aid in obeying Allah finds happiness in it,
while whoever makes it their greatest concern
finds themselves drowned in worries and desires. In this regard, some of the early righteous predecessors (Salaf)
spoke profound words:
A ship is not harmed by being
in the water; it only sinks if the water enters inside it.

Likewise, the believer
is not harmed by living in this world; the danger lies in the world
taking up residence in one's heart and becoming one's greatest concern.

Consider, too, the clear surface
of the water;
you see your reflection in it, yet it is not the reality
that you can actually grasp.

So it is with this world:
it may adorn one's desires until one believes that all happiness lies within it,
only to discover—after a time—
that it was all fleeting and short-lived.

God then concludes the parable with a scene
that stirs the heart: water descending,
vegetation flourishing,
and the earth clothed in greenery—
yet before long, it all withers and turns into brittle stubble scattered by the winds.

Such is this world...
it blooms briefly, then quickly fades away.

Do not let your heart become attached
to what is destined to pass;
instead, anchor your attachment to the One who never ceases to be, and strive for the Abode where there is neither death
nor separation.

{But the enduring good deeds are better with your Lord for reward and better for [one's] hope.}

Mengapa Allah menyamakan kehidupan dunia ini dengan air?

Salah satu perumpamaan paling mendalam yang disajikan Al-Quran mengenai kehidupan dunia adalah firman Allah SWT:

*{Dan berikanlah kepada mereka perumpamaan kehidupan dunia ini: [yaitu] seperti hujan yang Kami turunkan dari langit, lalu tumbuh-tumbuhan di bumi bercampur dengannya, kemudian menjadi kering dan berserakan ditiup angin.}*

Merenungkan ayat ini,
saya menemukan bahwa menyamakan kehidupan dunia dengan air bukanlah sekadar metafora;
melainkan, mengandung makna yang menggugah hati dan mengajak seseorang untuk introspeksi diri.

Hal pertama yang terlintas adalah air tidak dapat
dipegang di tangan untuk waktu yang lama; seberapa erat pun jari-jari Anda menggenggamnya, air itu akan tetap mengalir.

Begitu pula dengan kehidupan duniawi:
Anda dapat mengumpulkan apa pun yang Anda inginkan darinya,
tetapi pada akhirnya, Anda akan meninggalkan
semuanya,
tanpa membawa apa pun kecuali perbuatan Anda.

Kemudian pertimbangkan air...
Air tidak tetap dalam satu keadaan;
kadang-kadang cair,
kadang-kadang uap,
dan kadang-kadang es.

Begitu pula dengan kehidupan duniawi:
hari sukacita,
diikuti oleh hari duka;
hari sehat diikuti oleh penyakit,
dan kekayaan yang dapat digantikan oleh kemiskinan.

Jangan tertipu oleh keadaan Anda saat ini,
karena tidak ada sesuatu pun dalam hidup ini yang abadi.

Di antara wawasan yang paling indah
adalah bahwa air adalah sumber kehidupan
bila digunakan secukupnya,

namun dapat menjadi penyebab kehancuran
jika seseorang tenggelam di dalamnya.

Begitu pula dengan kehidupan duniawi:
barang siapa menjadikannya sebagai sarana untuk membantu menaati Allah, ia akan menemukan kebahagiaan di dalamnya,
sementara barang siapa menjadikannya sebagai perhatian utama, ia akan tenggelam dalam kekhawatiran dan keinginan. Dalam hal ini, beberapa ulama terdahulu yang saleh (Salaf)
mengucapkan kata-kata yang mendalam:
Sebuah kapal tidak akan rusak karena berada di dalam air; kapal hanya akan tenggelam jika air masuk ke dalamnya.

Demikian pula, orang beriman tidak akan rusak karena hidup di dunia ini; bahayanya terletak pada dunia yang bersemayam di dalam hati dan menjadi perhatian utama.

Perhatikan juga permukaan air yang jernih;
Anda melihat bayangan Anda di dalamnya, namun itu bukanlah kenyataan yang sebenarnya dapat Anda pahami.

Begitu pula dengan dunia ini:
dunia ini dapat memperindah keinginan seseorang hingga ia percaya bahwa semua kebahagiaan ada di dalamnya,
hanya untuk kemudian menyadari—setelah beberapa waktu—bahwa semuanya hanya sementara dan singkat.

Allah kemudian mengakhiri perumpamaan itu dengan sebuah pemandangan yang menggugah hati: air turun, tumbuh-tumbuhan tumbuh subur, dan bumi diselimuti kehijauan—namun tak lama kemudian semuanya layu dan berubah menjadi tunggul rapuh yang diterbangkan angin.

Demikianlah dunia ini... ia mekar sebentar, lalu cepat layu.

Jangan biarkan hatimu terikat pada apa yang ditakdirkan untuk berlalu;

sebaliknya, ikatlah keterikatanmu pada Yang Maha Esa yang tidak pernah berhenti ada, dan berusahalah untuk mendapatkan tempat tinggal di mana tidak ada kematian
maupun perpisahan.

{Tetapi amal saleh yang kekal lebih baik pahalanya di sisi Tuhanmu dan lebih baik pula harapannya.}
