Just a heads up on what's going to be happening if your child tells a teacher they're confused about their gender.

Speaking here is Anne Marie Meenagh, the Deputy Chairperson of the INTO LGBT+ Teachers’ Group. INTO are the main trade union for teachers in Ireland.

Meenagh says that the average age for children who realise they are homosexual is 12 but the average age for children to "realise they are not cisgender" is much younger.

What follows is a cartoon role-play to instruct teachers how they should handle a pupil who tells them they're confused about their gender.

The video is produced by The Teaching Council which is is responsible for promoting and regulating teaching in Ireland.

Meenagh also recommends that Educate and Celebrate, of which Elly Barnes is the CEO and Peter Tatchell is a Patron, be used as a resource by Irish primary school teachers.
