Loaded question I suppose, but I just received this notice from my distributor. This affects all forms of speech- so I’m not really sure how podcasts are going to be affected. This is an issue with Spotify itself, not distribution companies. And they are correct, I released a spoken word track (with instrumentals) two days ago, and it is blocked in the US.
The reasoning at the bottom of the email that got cut off is that they “don’t want to assume liability” for it, but did not elaborate further.
I do not think this timing is coincidental , and I’m wondering if that TikTok ban Bill might’ve had some bullshit like this in one of its sneaky clauses. Any insights and opinions and thoughts are welcome. However I'd hope most of us know what's up by this point, as it's been years of this escalating.
I wanted to share this for all the people who do share their poetry, who do share their comedy, who do share their thoughts and WORDS - at a time where humanity desperately needs original and truthful expression - for obvious reasons. '
