If sex work were decriminalized, and real supports for those who wish to exit were in place rather than jail, he would have been able to approach law enforcement. (Not that i'm pro LE, but still). He was "fortunate" (statutory rapist, egad!) to have someone to help him. So many do not. If they go to police they are either arrested and worse, sexually abused by LE. Decrim would have allowed this young man to safely seek help and get this asshat trafficker arrested sooner.

This article ends with talking about closing down Craigslist and about FOSTA-SESTA as if they were good things. All they have done is push traffickers and their victims further underground and harder to find.

The police I was supposed to ask for help from were making jokes about naked yoga from the start.
Ffs... this is why criminalization is so dangerous. 40% of LE are known abusers, but allowed to keep a badge. Even tho laws don't always keep them from abusing, that layer of legal protection would at least be something to help prevent abuse of victims. Fuck, i'm so sorry those were the police that came to "help". πŸ˜–

Many people who perpetuate violence and rape would not do so if they were not being traumatically systematically deprived of sexual safety and sexual contact.

When they have no safe place to go to get their sexual needs met, problems erupt everywhere in their lives.

In order to protect people experiencing this compounded violence, we need to increase access to healthy intimacy resources for individuals and communities.
