Many people have asked us, "What is the definition of sex trafficking?"

Almost none of the people who asked us were prepared to stay in conversation with us. In many cases it seemed like a test; if we could not answer clearly and succinctly enough, if our definition didn't make immediate sense to them, or if they did not yet have the context to understand our answer, perhaps the kind of sex trafficking we're striving to discuss does not exist.

Generally, those people have been polite. Quite a number of them seemed to want to talk to anybody else but us.

We began to examine together the conflicts underlying exchanges like these.

As subtle or less-subtle sex trafficking methodology has been increasingly normalized in every-day environments and experiences, there is an intermediary step before we can simplify what sex trafficking IS from what it ISN'T. First, we help one another understand how many different forms of sex trafficking are occurring beneath our awareness.

When someone asks "What is sex trafficking?" they usually don't know the answer.

Even if they might have an answer they can supply, most people who ask "What is sex trafficking?" have been in the midst of what seemed like confusing or competing definitions for sex trafficking.

In order to identify sex trafficking in their environments, they need to define it more specifically. But the specific definition of it brings them into self conflict... because people are loath to realize they are being sex trafficked.

"What are the different forms of sex trafficking?"
"Which forms am I experiencing?"
And, "Which forms are others experiencing that I may not know about yet?"

Once we make this distinction, we are much better equipped to make a distinction about what our world looks like as we eliminate sex trafficking... and can then say, "This is the definition of sex trafficking, and this is the definition of there not being sex trafficking."

Our Intuitive infrastructure is built, repaired, and maintained by severely disabled survivors of sex trafficking and those rare, amazing individuals who choose to assist us.

We told our families and communities what happened to us, but none of them — none — would or could respond. But surely none of those communities could be sheltering sex trafficking operations...?

The social circles and environments in question look to outsiders like thriving, healthy communities.

Of course... they're marketed that way. Audiences for this marketing don't realize so many people in those locations are dying, enduring continuous torture, begging for recognition and action while being actively commoditized.

"Commoditized" might not be as clear a word for some. Many of us find these other words most accurate: Starved, Tricked, Blackmailed, Programmed, Imprisoned, Enslaved, Raped, Tortured, Killed.

This recovery network has grown exponentially since we began to build it. As we found more and more severely disabled colleagues who had communicated what had happened to them and no one around them would respond, we had to build resources for all of us who could not find help anywhere else.

The sex trafficking networks we have been calling out are still active... and shockingly easy to eliminate as soon as we're all paying attention.

What community really wants to eliminate them?

We are experiencing physical abuse now. Not in the past. Right now.

The same elements and processes can apply, but it's important that we be able to recognize the physical abuse that is occurring right now especially because so many others do not recognize it as physical abuse.

The expertise we are developing is how one proceeds when one is held in place and physically abused. That is happening now.

All of those people who don't recognize it happening to us are traveling their paths to their own experiences of it happening to them, if it's not already happening to them.

We have the means of communicating about this as a collective conversation, especially as public media, where we don't know anyone else who is capable of doing that.

What we are experiencing is not remarkably different from someone having tied us down and continuing to stab or beat us multiple times a day.

It's important that we recognize that that is happening, and that we release fear responses or anger responses about how we have been lied to about it.

Then we meet the challenge as warriors in the moments and locations we are in, we learn from rising to the experience, and we share what we learned with others.

If we were to go to someone and say, I am being physically abused, they would not understand what we are saying.
