The dungeon scene is so profoundly unconscious-invoking
Yes it is
'Feet first is the only way' to be dragged out by the feet when dead
or like a breech birth
or only way out is when you start walking, start walking in your mind
this is profoundly a part of what got me out of so many bad situations

Welcome to the Robin of Sherwood Podcast. Here we talk about the great 1980's tv series Robin of Sherwood, one episode at a time. Thank you for listenin...
In the podcast I am listening to they sort of make it sound like the old man and the rat Arthur cannot leave the dungeon but this seems very foolish to me
They're talking about it as if somebody has to stay behind because of the way they're climbing out
But the old man keeps repeating, nobody gets out of here
I think this is so important
The assumption that someone must be left behind
This assumption being specious
And those being left behind comforting one another by saying there is no other choice, they could not possibly have done something about it
And the dungeon is very dark and horrible
And me and this rat, we have one another, but we could have climbed out of the dungeon with the help of the others
I think this scene is one of the reasons I haven't gotten very far past the first two episodes because I keep going back and watching some parts over and over
Arthur, bear, ear, earth, hearing, hearth, heart, art π» π π
Yes this is an interesting way to look at it
the way I look at it, it is also that the old man is very fixed in his belief that he can not leave, he is invited to leave with a brisk 'are you coming or what' and he says he cant
sometimes the invitation to leave isnt nice, and the unknown is big and scary

Sometimes the invitation to leave isn't nice and the unknown is big and scary
and sometimes even when the invitation to leave is not nice or kindly put, even if the unknown is big and scary, and all you seem to have known is a dark horrible hole, then you still need to seize the opportunity of escape when it presents itself
my way out of bad situations certainly wasnt nice, so far....

I also keep feeling that the matter of the old man's escape from the dungeon is treated in a sort of light hearted or semi-light-hearted way and I stop at that each time, partly because it feels such an inappropriate subject for comedy at this time but also partly because the inappropriateness of it seems to highlight it in a way that actually feels like it honors it in a way that I am really appreciating and so I'm just dwelling on these early parts of the show, recognizing a lot about what they are doing for me

To seize the opportunity of escape when it presents itself
To seize the opportunity of freedom when it presents itself
