"Today, January 6, marks the day known as Epiphany in the Christian tradition, but holds a much older and deeper biomantic meaning in the pre-Christian lineages of Earth Magic.
The name "Epiphany" is Greek, and means the "revealing of the light", and is part of the continued mystery play of the rebirth and anchoring of the sun's light in the midst of the fertile mid-winter darkness here in the northern hemisphere. And, for you Southerners, a parallel process is happening as the first hints and whispers of darkness begin to come following the peak light of summer solstice.
It is the 13th day after Christmas Eve, a number sacred to conception and fertility cycles, that follows the shimmering 12 days of mid-winter darkness (the “twelve days of Christmas”). Those twelve days are a liminal conception time, where we seed our dreams for the coming year into the quantum creation field of the Earth, and that seed becomes embodied and starts to fill with the substance of light beginning January 6 … yes, these energies have an archetypal and symbolic aspect, but they are also very real, very physical, and profoundly impact our biology and bio-energy fields. The mystery play is not just happening “outside us”, but within us, and within the Earth as well.
Every physical energy in the universe has a matching spiritual energy, and vice versa.
In other words, the veils are still open, Otherworld and the source fields of creation are close to us, still touching us at this moment. Our consciousness is ripe for seeding our dreams, desires and visions for the coming year. So let’s work with the cosmic rhythms and do some magic!
This is the origin of setting intentions for the New Year, which are, as all living things are, seeded in the time of fertile darkness."

Blessed Imbolc my friends! I’m at home today, about to ‘tend the hearth’ a bit as my special “Brigid candle” burns. Perhaps finally roast that one single butternut squash I got from my garden a few months ago.
Outside my window I see the still-bare branches and the remnants of the snow we had on Saturday (12” or so)… and yet I know that in just a few months, the lilac bushes will grace me with their beautiful fragrant blooms; and green shots & buds will be sprouting everywhere. This brings me joy, so I wanted to share my joy with you.
