The Moses Connection
And you, you shall command the children of Israel to bring you pure olive oil, crushed to be a luminary, to rise as an everlasting flame…from evening until morning… (Exodus 27:20-21)
“Command” in Hebrew is tzivah, which also means “connect.”
Moses was told to connect his people.
Connect them to the infinite light of G‑d.
Connect them to one another to become a single people.
Connect them at an essential soul-level, where they hold a pure source of light.
How do you connect them?
By bringing them to discover that pure, luminescent oil within themselves.
Then they will rise and shine.
They will shine at night, in a darkness that crushes their bodies and souls, only to bring out a yet finer oil.
And they will shine even in the day, crushed to discover that a world of comfort and luxury cannot satisfy their yearnings.
When they shine both in the night and in the day, then we know they have the purest of oils, and their flame is an eternal flame.
Because when they are connected from their inner soul, they are not only connected to the light. They are connected to the Luminary, the Source of All Light. The light can rise and flicker, but the Source of Light is beyond change.
This is the task of every representative of Moses in every generation: To guide each soul to discover its connection-point with the essence of G‑d and with every other holy soul.

Tonight, the United Methodist Church – the third-largest religious institution in the US – voted to double-down its opposition to marriage between children of God who are queer; and voted to reinforce its prohibition against children of God who are queer serving as clergy.
On this night, this is what I need all of you to hear:God did not kick you out of the church tonight, Loves.
Tonight, the church kicked God out of church.
Being rejected by church is not the same as being rejected by God.
God is not church.
God is not religion.
The gatekeepers of institutions are not God.
(But they are often desperate defenders of their own relevance.)
God loves you more than any institution God created for you: This means God loves you more than the toxic denomination in which you find yourself or the abusive marriage in which you find yourself.
When you need to go, you GO, and you take God and God’s Love right with you.
When religious folks decide they love any institution more than the individual souls inside those institutions—they’re missing the mark.
Not only is church not God, but church does not officially represent God, either. There is no one church that represents God. If you still want church—you can have one. There are churches all over the place that already have places set for you at their table. Be welcomed home to a church that does not just tolerate you, but celebrates you.
Also this: During the 3-day Methodist conference, many LGBTQI+ clergy members and congregants stood courageously – in the image of God – to proclaim and defend the full divinity of all queer children of God. Many ally ministers – under the threat of defrocking – did the same. We send deep gratitude and admiration to these love warriors. If the moral arc of the church bends toward all God’s children, it will be because of your righteousness.

It's Sunday and I thought I would share a prayer that was inspired by the Aramaic interpretation of what we now call The Lord's Prayer. The Aramaic scholar and teacher Dale Allen Hoffman is the source. It was a profound surprise when I first heard him do the translation and tell us how many of the words for creator were feminine. But then, in his teachings Yeshua/Jesus held all as equal, though we don't notice that much in practice these days.
This is one reason The Last Priestess and her story are needed in the world today. I hope you enjoy this:
"Our Mother who art within us,
Each breath brings us to you.
Thy wisdom come,
Thy will be done,
as we honor your presence within us.
You give us this day all that we need.
Your bounty calls us to give and receive
all that is loving and pleasurable.
