The history of the Free and Open Source Software movement has shown that the proliferation of incompatible copyright licenses which prohibit software from being legally combined creates more obstacles than opportunities for our movement. Any new copyright licenses for use with cooperative software must be written with this consideration in mind to intentionally avoid fracturing the software ecosystem. Adopting incompatible copyright licenses for different software would make it easy for our adversaries to divide and suppress the movement. Language is constructed collectively and is always evolving. It is counterproductive to our movement to refuse to collaborate with people because they use the words "open source" or "free software" to describe their work. They may even disagree with the entire premise of this document. That does not mean we should not work together towards shared goals, but we should be conscious that our goals may not perfectly align and this may cause tension in our communities from time to time.

We are athletes more than we ever expected. Our strength has had to manifest from deep inside our cells in a way that other athletes have not seemed to experience. As we navigate the lives of our bodies and learn what we must learn, we remember this strength training. We remember that we have been warriors. We know this changes the landscape we are meeting now. We stay connected to it by making notes about it and reminding one another that we are here, fully present. Ready for this action.

I've had the good fortune to work with a handful of brilliant folks navigating this terrain, among them my friend Stephers who blogs at "A Piece of Mindful." Earlier this week she released a new post about synthetic biology and bio-computing, but I knew it was deep ,and I didn't have the mental clarity given all that was happening to focus on it until now.

This is an exceptional piece. I know a belief asserted by many this week is that I have become persona non-grata by agreeing with Stephers that the focus of The Powers That Be's campaign is Internet of Bio-Nano Things bio-compatibility advanced through gamified social impact finance, rather than immediate genocide. I really like how Stephers reframes this - the erasure of natural humans - techno-cide.
