"Precious people with the most severe cases of poorly understood chronic illnesses are treated like trash. I’m fed up with it. Why is it that those who have been dealt the most suffering on this planet are the ones with the least support? I’m sick of hearing stories of heartless and arrogant doctors, cruel and dismissive spouses, friends who label them as crazy and leave them all alone at their most vulnerable. 

People are facing eviction and homelessness because they are too ill to provide for themselves and even social services is doing nothing. People are starving (yes, literally) because they are too ill to feed themselves and there is NOBODY there. Doctors would rather lock people up in psych wards than admit they might not know everything there is to know. This cannot be real. Is the world really this cruel? 

Yes. Yes it is.

Does anyone know what sacrificial love is?! I’ll tell you what it’s not. It’s not showing up only when it’s convenient. It’s not helping only those who can return the favor. It’s not labeling someone as a “hypochondriac” so you can excuse yourself and stop caring when they cry for help.

Let me tell you something…
Suppose they are crazy?

Suppose they are hypochondriacs? Why would that absolve you of the responsibility to help a fellow human being God has placed in your life? If they were hypochondriacs, they’d probably need your help even more — because I cannot even begin imagine trauma that could motivate someone to fake something like this. It would have to be something so extremely bizarre and indescribably awful it would warrant all the more tenderness and grace."

How could this happen?

Even though I was an active and successful part of multiple humanitarian, heart-centered professional communities, and even though I was in repeated contact with professionals who could have helped me at the time... I was not protected by my community relationships or my professional connections.

For a foggy and protracted number of weeks or months, a person dying of neurological, endocrinological, and immunological complications was only the worth of a sleeve of meat for the sexual aggression of others, and whatever money or practical resources she could share.

Was that me?

Survivors in our network report that people experiencing health conditions like these are being sex trafficked.

A person experiencing what this article describes cannot communicate or get away if they are being trafficked.

Unless they are listened to at length, with particular consistence, skill, and care, they often cannot even make the words that another person would recognize to help regain their safety.

There is no way for a severely affected person to get help.

They are not believed.

There are no community or public resources for them.

...becomes compounded interpersonal scapegoating when stressed family and community members double down on misinformation --- or fail to find the answers they really need, then run out of steam.

Then, more gruesome than any campfire cautionary tale: When predatory elements take advantage of gaslighted, multiply-marginalized, severely disabled scapegoats --- the results of accumulated disbelief become more apocalyptic and more invisible as the numbers mount.

One finds oneself writing urgent public requests using the words "sex trafficking" over and over again.

The first person who disbelieves a multiply-marginalized survivor in danger is different from the 10th person who disbelieves --- from the 99th person who disbelieves --- from the 500th person who disbelieves. 

If today you turned away from someone in need, you may have been the first, or the 5th, or the 500th.

How can you tell the difference?

These and other little-discussed pathways to human trafficking and sex trafficking require our attention immediately.

My experiences in Texas are not uncommon. 

The same things are happening here in Pennsylvania -- and in nearly every other community we've examined.

IPR interconnects countless survivors, organizers, and community warriors in diverse locations who report the same horrific experiences.

Our family and professional communities are entirely silent, except those severely affected.

We repeat these words --- "sex trafficking"  --- ad infinitum, using any approach we can think of, intersecting every conversation.

No response.

No response --- except haunting intermittent signals from severely affected friends desperate to avoid their immediate trafficking dangers... and from those who are being trafficked. 

Is every person a member of one of these two categories?

People being silent.

People being trafficked.

' Cuando era pequeño, mi tía me decía que tratara bien a los perros porque ellos me atravesarían el río cuando muriera. No entendí esta frase hasta mucho tiempo después.

Mi tía es maya kaqchikel, del altiplano de Guatemala y mantenía un amor profundo a los perros, quienes serían sus vigilantes al morir, ella se refería al xoloitzcuintle, que menciona la cultura mexica, en el mundo maya es el Tzi', el cuidador, el guía.

Ella no leyó estudios antropológicos sobre el inframundo maya, pero sí escuchó la tradición oral de sus abuelas y abuelos, eso fue suficiente para tener identidad.

El tema de la muerte en el mundo maya tiene diversas aristas, muchas interpretaciones y entenderlo va mucho más allá de querer verlo desde el mundo occidental. Primero debemos desconectarnos del tema infierno/ cielo. En el mundo maya no existe eso

Existe un supramundo, un mundo terrenal y un inframundo, al que se le da el nombre de Xibalba, que en idioma maya quiché significa El lugar del miedo. Xibalba no tiene relación con el infierno cristiano.

Es un lugar de pruebas que está por debajo de nosotros, donde están las enfermedades, pero también las curas. Donde está la muerte, pero como renovación, no como el fin.

Es, de alguna manera, difícil de entender en un principio, porque dentro de la formación occidental se nos enseña que para el bien existe el mal. En la cultura maya solo existen desequilibrios y esas variaciones energéticas provocan enfermedades, la noche del cuerpo

Según el Popol Wuj, libro del mundo maya, en Xibalba existían dos grandes líderes, quienes eran los que ponían las pruebas a quienes se atrevieran a buscarlos: Jun Kame, Wukub Kame, que traducido pueden llamarse como 1 muerte y 7 muerte.

Ellos regían el inframundo y eran quienes daban las curas para ellas. En el calendario lunar maya, existen dias dedicados a Kame para curarse.

Estos encuentros, llamados en la actualidad como ceremonias mayas se realizan en las entradas de las cavernas o al pie de los cerros. Esto simula la entrada al inframundo donde habitan los Señores de Xibalba.

Ellos eran conocidos como los Señores de Xibalba. El inframundo maya no tenía un carácter de castigo o de un fin, sino de un lugar de paso, por donde todos tenemos que pasar, ya sea la muerte o la enfermedad.

Lo narran los héroes gemelos en el Popol Wuj, Jun Ajpu e Xbalamque quienes para derrotar a los Señores de Xibalba piden ser destruidos en el fuego, son arrojados al río, se transforman en peces y regresan como dos ancianos magos, para derrotar a los habitantes de Xibalba.

El inframundo también está relacionado con las aguas, en el caso de los cenotes, las cuevas inundadas. Se relacionan con la caída de agua dentro de las cuevas, que hacen el sonido del juego de pelota maya, conocido como Pok ta Pok, eso que tanto molestó a los Señores de Xibalbá.

Míctlan, Xibalbá, Nith y Hel engloban un solo concepto: el del mundo subterráneo, el submundo, el mundo inferior, el infierno (del latín: ínferus, inferior, de abajo) 'el cual corresponde al tercer plano mitológico del universo primitivo indígena: el reino de los muertos

El día Kame no es un día dedicado a la muerte como un fin, es un día de transición, de pasar de un estado al otro, de pasar del día a la noche. Esto le da un carácter natural y no de tragedia. También es un día para comunicarse con los abuelos, consultar.

Kame es lo único seguro, todos nacemos y lo único certero es que algún día volveremos al origen. '
