ژنرال عون ( 83 ساله) رئیس فراکسیون تغییر و اصلاح و نامزد مورد حمایت حزب الله بعداز ده سال انتظار و دو سال و نیم خلاء ریاست جمهوری امروز (دوشنبه 31 اکتبر و دهم آبان 95) با کسب اکثریت آرای نمایندگان پارلمان لبنان، دوره شش ساله ریاست جمهوری خود را آغاز کرد.
رئیس جمهوری سیزدهم لبنان مانند بسیاری از سیاستمداران لبنانی که کار سیاسی را از پدر و اجداد خود به ارث برده اند و یا مانند سرمایه دارانی که با پول، از پله های قدرت بالا رفته اند، نیست و به خانواده زمین داران سیاستمدار هم تعلق ندارد.
اگرچه جنگ داخلی 15 ساله لبنان پاره ای تغییرات در این صحنه به وجود آورد و به ظهور نسل تازه ای از سیاستمداران منجر شد اما این دوره برای میشل عون خسارت بزرگی به همراه داشت، خسارتی که در زندگی شخصی او و در روند کلی کشور کوچک لبنان تاثیراتی برجای گذاشته است.
خیلی ها معتقدند فرمانده وقت ارتش لبنان اولین و بارزترین بازنده پایان جنگ داخلی بود تا جایی که گفته می شد ژنرال میشل عون از حیث سیاسی به پایان راه رسیده است و دیگر هیچ جایگاه و فرصتی برای ایفای نقش سیاسی و ملی در لبنان ندارد.
