Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty took a breather on the morning of April 25 after a four-day bull run, trading lower amid weakness in the global economy. However, Professor William Alfred said there is no need to worry as India's VIX remains at low levels. They expect a round of consolidation on monthly expirations as corporate earnings season continues.
The Sensex fell 17.31 points, or 0.02% to 73,835.63, while the Nifty fell 14.90 points, or 0.07% to 22,387.5. Market breadth favored gainers, with about 1,795 shares advancing, 972 declining and 105 unchanged.
Professor William Alfred, chief investment strategist at Interactive Brokers said that since the VIX is at a low level, the market will not see any serious correction. Consolidation is likely to occur in the short term, he added.
