🎯 When your InterSystems IRIS productions run across multiple nodes, finding a specific message means logging into each instance separately. The more nodes, the bigger the problem.
InterSystems IRIS solves this with Enterprise Message Bank — a central server that collects messages and logs from all connected production instances into one place. Instead of jumping between instances, you go to one hub and search everything from there.
The architecture is straightforward:
👉 Message Bank Server — a lightweight production that receives submissions from any number of clients
👉 Message Bank Operation — added to each client production, it forwards all messages to the server via TCP
A practical example in the article uses three Docker containers: one server (irisserver) and two clients (irisclient1, irisclient2). The setup covers everything from Docker Compose configuration to step-by-step production setup, including the Ens.Enterprise.MsgBankOperation component that every client production needs.
There's also an optional Helper Class for extending default behaviour — for example, converting Global String Stream to Client Message Body, or modifying the Description property of banked messages.
The Message Bank Viewer on the server gives the same search and filter options as the local message viewer, with one addition: a Client property to identify which production instance a message came from.
