For those just starting on their crypto investigations journey, here are three tools I would recommend:
1️⃣ Arkham Intelligence - Great free tool! However, there are levels to using it from basic to advanced. There are some neat tricks to learn on this tool to get the best out of it.
2️⃣ SPECTRA - The all-seeing eye... this is a tool belonging to Intelligence On Chain (IOC) and it has multiple modules to help you find the information you're looking for.
3️⃣ Obsidian - Free and locally hosted! This tool is one of the best note-taking apps out there, in my opinion. I've literally used it to map out hundreds of millions of dollars worth of scams

A message in my DMs stopped me in my tracks. 🛑
Not because it was complicated…
But because it exposed something most investigators never talk about.
Many of the people in my network - investigators, law enforcement professionals, lawyers, and forensic accountants - rely on extremely expensive investigative tools. 💵 💵
And to be clear: those tools absolutely have their place, especially when evidence needs to stand up in court. 🧑⚖️
But here’s the uncomfortable truth…
A huge number of investigations could be run using free or very low-cost tools - if you simply knew how.
Lower tool costs = lower overhead.
Lower overhead = lower cost to the client/victim
So I’m considering building something practical:
A step-by-step course that walks through a real investigation, showing exactly how to execute it using free or low-cost tools.
A purely practical course!

TRACING CRYPTO LAUNDERING NETWORKS: A PRACTICAL CASE STUDY
We’ve just released the latest Crypto Tracing Challenge solution, focused on identifying and deconstructing a laundering network operating through privacy infrastructure.
This case study demonstrates how two seemingly isolated transactions can be used as entry points to uncover a broader laundering ecosystem. By applying structured tracing methodologies, it becomes possible to map flows across multiple layers, including mixers and automated exchange services.
February Crypto Tracing Challenge
The analysis begins with two Ethereum transactions withdrawn from Tornado Cash:
