🚨URGENT

Appeal from the Kurdish Red Crescent Team in Kobanê to humanitarian organizations and to the United Nations, represented by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Mr. Barham Salih:
The city of Kobani and its surrounding countryside have been subjected for days to a brutal military campaign and a suffocating siege imposed by armed factions affiliated with the transitional government in Damascus. Despite the announcement of a ceasefire, the siege continues, and the entry of basic life necessities is still being blocked by these factions.

Water, fuel, and essential food supplies have been cut off from civilians, leading to the displacement of a large number of families into the city. Many of them are forced to sleep outdoors or in their vehicles. Recently, internet and communication services have also been cut off from the city.

The humanitarian situation is catastrophic and brings back painful memories for the people of Kobani of the time when the city was previously besieged by the so-called Islamic State.
We urgently appeal to you to intervene immediately and to fulfill your humanitarian and moral responsibilities toward the city of Kobani and its people.

For 6 days now - has the Syrian government cut off all water and electricity to Kobane.
A city is being starved into submission by the Syrian Government.

If the STG was truthful about its intentions to protect the rights of the Kurdish, they wouldn’t attempt to starve an entire Kurdish city into submission.

On top of that, it is currently very cold in northern Syria - it’s snowing and the thousands of IDPs do not have any protection from the cold.

A humanitarian disaster - potentially causing more deaths than a war could cause.

No statement or assurances from the Syrian Government can excuse this and every attempt to claim that this is a war against the PKK and not the Kurdish people is pure propaganda.
Kobane is a Kurdish city and for 6 days, the Syrian Government has cut off its water and electricity supply.

In regards to the argument that the STG is at war with the PKK and not the Kurdish people - we have repeatedly explained:
1. Equalising the PKK with the YPG is dishonest and nothing more than a narrative pushed by the Turkish government. There are observable differences between these 2 factions even if they’re ideologically similar.
2. The popular support for the YPG does not come from ideological ties or beliefs.
The Kurdish people of Rojava stand behind the YPG because the YPG has been the only faction in Rojava which has protected the Kurdish people.
Who else was there for the Kurdish people?

Not a single Syrian Faction has been kind to the Kurdish people.
It is natural that the Kurdish people rally behind the only faction in Syria - matter of fact, the YPG Protection of Rojava was the first in the history of Syria that the Kurdish people enjoyed their full rights and freedoms without fearing persecution.

Things are never black and white in conflicts - these talking points about being *at war with the PKK* is nothing more than propaganda; making the ethnic persecution of Kurds legal and halal.

This is the same narrative that the Syrian Government is pushing now, just with different actors. <

The database to document the warcrimes committed by the Syrian Government against the Kurdish people seems to be under attack.

This is unacceptable by all means.

Official Clarification: An Individual Incident and Immediate Measures

Our leadership is closely following what has recently circulated regarding one of our fighters photographing himself alongside armed individuals who were killed during the repulsion of an attack carried out by Damascus-affiliated factions on the village of Kharous, south of Kobani.

In line with our commitment to military and ethical values, the fighter in question was immediately dismissed from the ranks of the forces and referred to the military court to take the necessary legal measures.

We affirm that this act is individual and unacceptable, and does not reflect the principles of our forces, which are known for their respect for humanitarian standards and codes of conduct, including respect for the dignity of the dead. We reaffirm our continued commitment to carrying out our duties in accordance with the values by which we are known.
