Who is Omer Mihemed Çiftçi, the newly appointed commander of the Syrian Army's 62nd Brigade?

Omer Mihemed Çiftçi was previously on Turkey's wanted list for his ties to Al-Qaeda. However, after HTS, led by Ahmed al-Sharaa (Abu Mohammad al-Julani), came to power, Turkish authorities removed him from the list.

Also known as Mukhtar al-Turki and Omar Mohammed Ciftasi, Çiftçi was born in 1980 in Osmaniye, Turkey. He joined Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan in 2004 before traveling to Syria in 2012, where he became a member of Jabhat al-Nusra, the predecessor of HTS.

He was recently appointed commander of the Syrian Army's 62nd Brigade, replacing Mohammad al-Jassem (Abu Amsha), who was removed from the post.

His appointment also appears to contradict the January 29 agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the interim Syrian government, which stipulated that foreign fighters would be removed from Syria and excluded from military positions.

The Syrian government, led by Abu Mohammad al-Julani (Ahmed al-Sharaa), has agreed to allow the Russian military bases to remain in Syria, contrary to the demands of the U.S. administration that they be dismantled.

Losing the war with Iran, the continued presence of Russian bases in Syria, and the loss of the United States’ most important ally, the Kurds, are all the result of Trump’s policies and those of his top man in the Middle East, Tom Barrack, who chose terrorism over those who were fighting terrorism. This has led to the loss of U.S. interests, while favoring Turkish interests over American interests and those of the American people.

And, of course, Trump does not come out and attack or tell the truth, because doing so would expose him to accountability and lead to the collapse of his popularity.

America must either reconsider its policy, recover what remains of its influence, and return with strength, or everything will fall apart and it will lose what remains of its interests.

Turkish forces withdrew on Sunday from Julbur village in Afrin countryside, northwestern Syria, after more than eight years of control, during which the village was used as a military base and residents were prevented from returning to their homes.

Following the withdrawal, vehicles belonging to the Internal Security Forces of Syria’s transitional government entered the village and began search and inspection operations to detect mines and unexploded remnants of war and assess the safety of the area.

Julbur has more than 110 homes, many of which were damaged or destroyed during years of shelling and military operations. The village had become a frontline area and was repeatedly shelled, causing extensive damage to residential buildings and private property.
