On the occasion of the 14th anniversary of the July 19 Revolution, SDF General Commander Mazloum Abdi made important remarks.

The Rojava Revolution was a democratic revolution that encompassed all the peoples of the region, embodied by the Kurdish people.

SDF General Commander Mazlum Abdi made significant statements on the anniversary of the July 19 Rojava Revolution:

"Today, we are entering a new phase. Military and administrative institutions—including the SDF and the Autonomous Administration—may undergo changes, but this revolution will continue in new forms."

"The new Syria is the result of the struggle of all Syrians, including the Kurdish people and the diverse components fighting within the ranks of the SDF and the Autonomous Administration."

On the 14th anniversary of the Rojava Revolution, while we remember all the martyrs with respect and gratitude, we also deem it our duty to say a few words.

What distinguished July 19 was not merely the Kurds’ demand for self-governance. The fundamental point that set it apart from many other experiences in the Middle East was its attempt to construct itself not as an ethnically based power project, but on the foundation of the democratic nation concept.

This vision carried the claim that “These lands do not belong to a single people alone; all the peoples, faiths, and cultures living here can coexist together.” It was asserted that Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians, Armenians, Turkmens, and other communities could build a shared life under the same political roof.

Alongside all criticisms, one very important truth must not be forgotten: The Kurdish people have undergone a profound historical transformation.

There was a time when the very existence of Kurds in Syria was a subject of debate; today, Kurds are regarded as a significant actor in discussions about Syria’s future.

One of the most important social gains of the July 19 Revolution was the transformation of women’s position in every sphere of life. This change was not limited to women taking part in institutions or governance mechanisms; it also led to the re-examination of traditional relationships within society.

As a result, despite all its shortcomings, the July 19 Revolution can be considered one of the most significant political and social achievements of the Kurdish people in the last century. What will make it stronger is not only recounting its successes, but also having the courage to openly discuss its deficiencies. Because what keeps a revolution alive is not merely the victories it won in the past, but its capacity to learn from its own mistakes as it prepares for the future.
