Attacks carried out by the IRGC led PMF in Iraq are also reaching Syria:

2 drones have been intercepted in the southern countryside of Qamishlo near Tal Tamir; local reports claim that anti aircraft fire has been heard alongside jet engine noises.

Sounds of explosions have also been reported near the Qasrak military base which was a former US military base that is now used by the Syrian Government.

CRAM system at the Qasrak base in northern syria has been activated to intercept incoming drones launched by the PMF in Iraq.

This is interesting: US forces abandoned the base in February 2026 - then they redeployed there in March 2026; the redeployment however was surrounded by a lot of rumours and speculation.
The CRAM systems activation is the first real confirmation that US forces have been redeployed there in large numbers; large enough to warrant the deployment of a CRAM system.

There is the need to step away from the notion that the attacks against the Autonomous Region of Kurdistan have to be solely blamed on Iran.

The PMF (Hashd Al Shaabi) is led by the IRGC but they are also, and that is more important, part of the Iraqi security apparatus.
Iraq created laws in 2016 that provided the PMF with a legal status, framework, authority and protection.

The Iraqi government is equally responsible for these attacks and considering that they rely on condemning these attacks instead of implementing mechanisms to prevent these attacks - they signal that they are not just responsible for these attacks but actively involved in them.
Or in other shorter words: there was a huge tolerance towards Iraq utilising the PMF to fight ISIS - after the war against ISIS and when the PMF openly declared their allegiance to IRGC (Khameini) it was time for Iraq to implement measures to weaken and absorb the PMF into either the federal army or dissolve them.

Iraq is responsible for the current crisis.
