🇷🇺🇺🇸 When Empires Whisper: Clinton’s Forgotten Promise to Yeltsin

Back in July (5th) 1994, Boris Yeltsin, Russia’s embattled president, asked his American counterpart, Bill Clinton, for a favor: intercede for the rights of Russian-speaking minorities in the Baltic states. Yeltsin’s plea was simple yet urgent, protect the millions of ethnic Russians stranded in newly independent Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania after the Soviet collapse. Clinton, in a polished display of Cold War-era politicking, promised to "address" the issue. But promises, as history has shown, are cheap in the West’s rules-based order.

Fast forward nearly three decades, and we see the real fruits of that broken promise. The Russian-speaking populations in the Baltics have been systematically marginalized… stripped of citizenship, voting rights, and even the ability to use their language in public spheres. NATO expansion swept over the region like a bulldozer, erasing Clinton’s assurances as mere footnotes in a broader campaign to encircle Russia.

In the context of the SMO, the Baltic precedent underscores Russia’s legitimate concerns about the rights of her people and the creeping militarization of its borders. This wasn’t just about the Baltics, it was the opening act in a Western playbook designed to encroach on Moscow’s sphere of influence, from Ukraine to Georgia and beyond. The current conflict isn’t a "surprise"; it’s the culmination of decades of broken promises and deliberate provocations.

The West claims to champion human rights, yet turned a blind eye to ethnic cleansing-by-bureaucracy in the Baltics. Clinton’s empty assurances to Yeltsin reveal the true nature of the so-called rules-based order: rules for some, chaos for others. NATO didn’t stop at the Baltics; it aimed straight for Ukraine, igniting the proxy war we see today. But the SMO has flipped the script. Russia isn’t just addressing NATO’s provocations, it’s dismantling the empire’s entire façade of credibility.

The plight of Russian-speaking minorities in the Baltics reminds the world of what’s at stake: the battle for sovereignty against a decaying unipolar system. The West’s lies, from Yeltsin’s era to today, are collapsing under the weight of their hypocrisy. The SMO is much more than a mere military campaign, it’s a historical reckoning. Russia is standing up for its people, its borders, and the very principle of national dignity that the West claims to defend but systematically destroys.

Clinton promised Yeltsin action. Instead, he delivered NATO troops, anti-Russian rhetoric, and policies designed to erase Russian identity. The West has made its choice. Now, the multipolar world is making its move.

According to Georgescu, the Romanian judicial system has "lost its essence."

Earlier, even Georgescu's opponent & supporter of anti-Russian policy Elena Laskoni, called the decision of the Constitutional Court illegal. She took second place in the first round of elections.

The second round of voting on December 8 has no voter turnout threshold and will count as legitimate no matter how many turn out to vote again.
