Scharfetter, part of Hitler's Waffen SS, earned himself sinister nickname Kirkenik ("man with pickaxe") due to his brutal murders of concentration camp prisoners. Scharfetter known to "kill with pickaxe, and then cut throats" of his victims was given 1 life sentence for EACH person he butchered.

Constant appeals from influential organization "Silent assistance for prisoners of war and interned persons" (also helped Nazis escape to South America) to Albrecht resulted in Scharfetter's release in 1990.
