Netanyahu's office says Israeli-Russian academic Elizaveta Tsurkova (pictured), missing in Iraq since March, has been taken hostage by Shi’ite militia Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq but is alive.

Israeli sources say Tsurkova used Russian passport to enter Iraq for "academic research" as Israeli nationals are banned from entering Iraq.

Local Iraqi sources say security and government officials haven't confirmed Israel's info.

Tsurkova's served in Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), is doctoral candidate at US-based Princeton University, has called Al-Qaeda affiliate al-Nusra Front "moderate rebels" and promoted regime change in Syria.
