They were afraid to give it up because they thought it was the only thing that would protect them from an expansionist Russia - Bill "Epstein's buddy" Clinton.
Ukraine once hosted Soviet nuclear weapons on its territory, In 1994, citing its inability to circumvent Russian launch codes, reached an understanding to transfer and destroy these weapons and become a party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
