🔥 In 2017, Twitter did not find evidence of Russian interference in the US presidential election, but under pressure from US govt, it began witch hunt for “suspicious accounts” - investigative journalist Matt Taibbi.

✔️ Twitter created a special working group, which manually checked thousands of accounts for “Russian interference”, found only 32 of them suspicious, and only 17 of them were connected with Russia.

✔️ Of these, two with “substantial spending” - one of them (quite naturally) was Russia Today.

✔️ The result of the check was underwhelming, so the government threatened the social network with limiting political advertising, resulting in loss of revenue.

✔️ Twitter began to censor anything that was identified by the US intelligence community as a state-sponsored entity conducting cyber operations - Taibbi.
