Hi there! 🫶🏻

Сегодня разберём фразу “What are you up to?”

“

What are you up to?”

По сути, это похоже на “What are you doing?”, но звучит более неформально и дружелюбно.

1) Not much, just [doing something]
• Not much, just listening to music.
2) Just [doing something]
• Just reading a book.
3) Nothing special, just chilling/just hanging out
• Nothing special, just chilling at home.

I saw this post today and I couldn’t help but share When I read it, it honestly made me really nervous, because I personally went through (сама лично прошла через) something very similar.

We also had a trip to Dubai booked for very soon. Luckily (к счастью), we had booked it through a travel agency (турагентство), and in situations like this it’s usually considered a kind of force majeure (форс-мажор), so the trip is supposed to be refundable (возвратной).

At first, the hotel started pushing back (сопротивляться, возражать) and basically said that everything in Dubai was perfectly fine and that we should just come anyway.

After almost a week of stressful conversations and negotiations with the travel agency, they finally agreed to cancel (аннулировать) the booking and reschedule (перенести) our trip to another destination.

So now we’re flying to Vietnam instead. We’re really hoping everything goes smoothly there and that my trip doesn’t end up like the situation with that girl.

Wish me luck! 🍀

1. I didn’t get to see her
2. I got to try that new restaurant
3. She gets to travel a lot for work

1. I didn’t get to see her — Мне не удалось её увидеть/у меня не было возможности её увидеть
2. I got to try that new restaurant —
3. She gets to travel a lot for work — Ей удаётся/ей выпадает возможность много путешествовать по работе

Суть конструкции get to + verb:

•I saw her — я её увидел (факт)
•I got to see her — мне удалось её увидеть

P.S. Можно запомнить как синоним «have an opportunity»
