Abrams tanks arrive in Ukraine only in a year 👏

About 30 American vehicles are unlikely to arrive by the spring, when a new offensive of Russia is expected, according to the Washington Post.

Kyiv will be able to receive tanks only in a year due to the need to conclude contracts with manufacturers.

According to US officials, the Biden administration decided to provide M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, overriding fears that heavy battle tanks, the most powerful in the world, were too financially burdensome for Kyiv forces.

The publication also noted that the decision to send it was made "not for the nearest battle", but because of a dispute over the supply of Leopard 2 tanks by Germany.

“We want to make sure [the Ukrainians] have the ability to maintain it, sustain it, train on it.”

Patrick Ryder emphasised that the administration — “focused on what is it that Ukraine needs right now, to have an immediate effect on the battlefield”.
