Just Released...The Latest Episode of the Investor Hour

My guest this week is Devina Mehra, Founder, First Global.

Here are the episode notes...

Devina Mehra on Importance of First Principles, Picking HDFC Bank in 1996 and Turning Down Ratan Tata’s Suggestion

Devina Mehra’s claim to fame is recommending HDFC Bank stock at an adjusted price of less than Re 1.

But that’s nowhere even close to the successes she has racked up over her career.

She founded First Global, which is today one of India’s most successful global research firms.

Along the way she has had a string of successful calls including recommending Amazon in 2001.

Her biggest contribution yet may be the thoroughness with which she researches a stock (which has evolved into a human plus machine process).

Listen in to a fascinating conversation where we discuss all this, and our usual favourite topics of portfolio construction, portfolio sizing and asset allocation.

It’s a must listen...

54,774 Invested in ONE Stock Turned into Rs 5 CRORE…

This one stock is a classic ‘100 Crore Club’ stock.

Had you bought this stock in 1992, your investment would be up 913 times now.

Which means that a mere investment of Rs 54,774 would have grown to Rs 5 crore now.

Have you ever imagined a tiny investment of just over Rs 50,000 snowballing into Rs 5 crore?

If you’re serious about joining my ‘100 Crore Club’, you must ask this question the next time you buy a stock:

Does this stock investment have the potential to grow into a corpus worth Rs 5 crore in the long run?

Join me at my special event on the ‘100 Crore Club’ on 10th October at 5pm.

Its been more than a decade since rating agencies like S&P and Moody's were accused of colluding with their clients to assign faulty ratings for financial instruments. However, the rating agencies, both globally and in India, showed few changes to their faulty revenue structure. It appears that regulators are now getting stricter. https://www.businesstoday.in/latest/corporate/story/sebi-orders-shutting-down-of-rating-agency-brickwork-ratings-349198-2022-10-06

Covid-19 disruptions spared no one. Not even the largest corporates.

Some companies shut down for weeks, some for months.

Yet, Apple delivered its flagship line of new products on schedule, despite battling a year of supply-chain turmoil. That is the level of precision in supply chain, which the world's largest company by marketcap, has achieved.

China currently accounts for over 95% of iPhones manufactured by Apple's vendors globally.

So, when this very supply chain faced a real threat, Apple took some decisions that could change the map of global manufacturing over next few decades.

How will Apple's move affect you as an investor? Well, there are opportunities to find multibaggers in this megatrend. Find the details in my video. https://www.equitymaster.com/detail.asp?date=10/08/2022&story=4&title=Indian-iPhone-Holds-Clue-for-China-1-Multibagger-Stocks

# Semiconductor # New Oil # War Profits....The US government has imposed restrictions on American firms and their partners in Taiwan etc (like TSMC) for selling semiconductor equipment and technology to their Chinese counterparts. The US seeks to stop China’s drive to develop its own chip industry and advance its military capabilities. The impact could extend well beyond semiconductors and into industries that rely on high-end computing, from electric vehicles and aerospace to gadgets like smartphones. With the latest move, it would become difficult for China to manufacture and develop semiconductors because most semiconductor equipment and technology are dominated by US and its allies such as Japan and Netherlands. https://www.livemint.com/companies/news/chipmaker-rout-engulfs-tsmc-samsung-with-240-billion-wiped-out-11665480387072.html

"In a few years hence, it will be possible for nations to fight without armies, ships or guns, by weapons far more terrible to the destructive action and range of which there is virtually no limit. Any city at any distance whatsoever from the enemy can be destroyed by him and no power on Earth can stop him from doing so." —Nikola Tesla, circa 1925. Here is a book on the original Tesla - Tesla: Wizard at War: The Genius, the Particle Beam Weapon, and the Pursuit of Power

Dear Readers
Indian stock markets have witnessed a correction last month on the back of weak global cues. Investors continues to be concerned about the possibility of faster rate increases, China's Covid-Zero policy, and escalating geopolitical tensions. For long term investors, any correction that happen in the market would be an opportunity to enter quality stocks at attractive price
In this video, I have selected three smallcap companies with leading market shares that I believe should be on your watchlist. Please note that inclusion in this list does not imply a buy or hold view. The analysis here is about the business strengths and potential downsides, and not about valuations. For that, I would recommend you to dig deeper and do your own due diligence.
