The Wild Robot is not a terrible film, I’ve seen much worse. I wouldn’t even recommend that you avoid it. The devastation of Hurricane Helene has been shocking. The government has essentially abandoned flyover country. But this is a dangerous move, because it also means abdicating sovereignty there. This is a vision of the future, and Mike has a prescription for a world without governance.

Right now, Hurricane Helene is battering the American Southeast—flyover country—and the people there are being starved of help. This is a vision of the future. Get used to it.

I have been predicting that Trump will win the election, but since Hurricane Helene, I’m much less certain of that.

There is no question that the regime will decide the election. And it would certainly be in the regime’s best interests to put him in the White House. Trump is the candidate of unity, he is an agent of deradicalization that will take Red State eyes off the radical right. Putting him in would be the rational move. But clearly American political elites are not rational.

The response to Hurricane Helene suggests that the regime is captured by its own civil service, which has a deep class antagonism toward Red State America, which Trump represents. They are turning away help and watching these people die, on purpose.

What’s more, letting chaos ensue and refusing to clean up Red States will have an effect on voting. This will hurt Trump at the polls, so it will be much easier to procedurally massage the results against his favour.

If the US federal government is that headless that it would openly try to disenfranchise the American Southeast, it’s not competent enough to know it’s best interests, which would be to let Trump win. His chances have gone down significantly.
