🤖 So, what's the deal with GAN?

If you've ever downloaded an app to see how much you resemble Beyoncé or picked the best out of 4 images in MidJourney, you've definitely used GAN Inversion.


Who are we to explain it all to you when 🤖ChatGPT loves talking about this stuff:

▪️ What's GAN Exactly?
GAN, or Generative Adversarial Network, is a special type of neural network that learns to generate new images or data that look very realistic. GAN has two main components: the generator and the discriminator. Think of it like a two-piece band: the creator and the judge.

▪️ How Does GAN Work?
The creator whips up new images or data from a random vector, like an artist starting with a blank canvas. Then comes the judge, checking if these newbies look "real" or "fake."

▪️ How Do They Learn?
The generator [creator] and discriminator [judge] learn by competing with each other. The generator tries to produce data that will fool the discriminator, while the discriminator tries to distinguish between real and synthesized data.

▪️ What's GAN Inversion?
GAN Inversion is like cracking the code to a safe. A Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) typically generates images from a random vector. But GAN Inversion works the other way around: it tries to find the same random vector that can be input into the network to get the same image.

Margarita specializes in generative AI, genomics, and steganography. Her research has been presented at major AI conferences such as NeurIPS, CVPR, AAAI, ICASSP, and ASHG😱


Currently, Margarita is pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley.

Previously, she worked at Amazon as an Applied Scientist in the Home Innovation Team, focusing on large-scale generative models.


😮 Margarita is an active member of San Francisco's tech scene — she led the San Francisco Techstars community, served as the public chair of the CS Berkeley Entrepreneurship Alumni Association, and organized several tech+MBA mixers, conferences, and hackathons, including Techstars Startup Weekend San Francisco AI 2023, AI Nexus with Berkeley SkyDeck, and the MadHats.ai conference 2024.
