was an American motion-picture actor and director known for his boyish good looks and diversity of screen characterizations. He gained wide fame with his performance opposite Paul Newman in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) and thereafter became a highly sought-after leading man, starring in such notable hits as The Way We Were (1973), The Sting (1973), All the President’s Men (1976), and Out of Africa (1985). Redford was also known for his lifelong commitment to environmental and liberal political causes and for founding the Sundance Institute and promoting the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, which he used to advocate for independent filmmaking and mentor young directors.

Redford appeared in mostly forgettable films throughout the mid-1960s, the cult favorite The Chase (1966) and the screen adaptation of Barefoot in the Park (1967) being notable exceptions.
"I'm interested in that thing that happens where there's a breaking point for some people and not for others. You go through such hardship, things that are almost impossibly difficult, and there's no sign that it's going to get any better, and that's the point when people quit. But some don't."
"I think 'quiet' sometimes is a greater power than noise."
The world around us is in a sea change, and I think the glory of art is that it cannot only survive change, it can lead it."
"Whenever there's chaos, there's ambiguity, and where there's ambiguity, there's fear. And fear gets manipulated."
"I have a very low regard for cynics. I think it's the beginning of dying."
"You have to believe in your own projects and ideas more than anyone else."
"Not taking a risk is a risk. That's how I see it."
"When I was young, I said to myself, 'You've got to make the most of your life.' It's all about taking risks. Push yourself to do as much exploration as possible. Find yourself. Because sometimes we think we've found ourselves, but it's only part of ourselves we've found. We haven't pushed ourselves far out there where we make mistakes and things don't work out, but at least we've discovered something. I felt that's what my life had to be."
"I have no regrets, because I've done everything I could to the best of my ability."

"What really matters is the work. And what matters to me is doing the work. I'm not looking at the back end: 'What am I going to get out of this? What's going to be the reward?' I'm just looking at the work, the pleasure of being able to do the work."
"I don't think about when it's going to stop and what you do before it stops. You just keep moving."
Malcolm X (American Muslim leader)
_________
Born : May 19, 1925
Died : February 21, 1965
_________
was an African American leader and prominent figure in the Nation of Islam who articulated concepts of race pride and Black nationalism in the early 1960s. After his assassination, the widespread distribution of his life story—The Autobiography of Malcolm X (1965)—made him an ideological hero, especially among Black youth.

An articulate public speaker, a charismatic personality, and an indefatigable organizer, Malcolm X expressed the pent-up anger, frustration, and bitterness of African Americans during the major phase of the civil rights movement from 1955 to 1965. He preached on the streets of Harlem and spoke at major universities such as Harvard University and the University of Oxford. His keen intellect, incisive wit, and ardent radicalism made him a formidable critic of American society.

'Early in my life, I had learned that if you want something, you had better make some noise.'
"The only thing power respects, is power."
"They don't know what morals are. They don't try and eliminate an evil because it's evil, or because it's illegal, or because it's immoral; they eliminate it only when it threatens their existence."

"So you're wasting your time appealing to the moral conscience of a bankrupt man... If he had a conscience, he'd straighten this thing out with no more pressure being put upon him... We have to change our own mind. You can't change his mind about us. We've got to change our own minds about each other."
