Dr. Fuad Sahin was named to the Order of Canada by Governor General Julie Payette on December 29, 2017. He had previously received the Order of Ontario in 2009. Originally from Turkey, Dr. Sahan immigrated to Canada in 1958 with his family and served as a medical intern in Kingston. He then settled in Niagara in 1966, serving as a urologist, associated with the Greater Niagara General Hospital in Niagara Falls until he retired.
Dr. Sahin was served at Toronto's first mosque on Dundas Street.
He is best known as the founder of the Islamic charity, the International Development and Relief Foundation (IDRF). He has also been active in interfaith dialogue with Christian and Jewish communities...

✅ Boston police’s social media surveillance unfairly targeted Muslims, ACLU says
A social media monitoring tool used by the Boston Police Department to identify potential threats swept up the posts of people using the hashtag #MuslimLivesMatter and a lawmaker’s Facebook update about racial inequality, according to a report released Wednesday by the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts.
The ACLU says in a report based on documents obtained through a public records request that the police department’s use of Geofeedia to mine the internet appears to have had little benefit to public safety while unfairly focusing on groups such as Muslims. Texas pastor Bob Roberts has traveled to Washington before for the National Prayer Breakfast, a Christian-organized networking event where evangelicals come to schmooze about topics including their shared goal of bringing people to Christ. This year, he’ll attend with one of his closest current collaborators: an 85-year-old Islamic scholar visiting from Abu Dhabi.
Roberts and Shaykh Abdallah Bin Bayyah are attending the Thursday breakfast following an unusual gathering that was held during the previous three days: Four hundred faith leaders coming together to forge ties, work that has been common for many U.S. faith groups for decades but often has eluded one particular pair: Muslims and evangelicals.
White evangelicals have the most anti-Muslim views of any American faith group, polls show, and the meeting reflects the urgency an increasing number of imams and pastors feel at a time when the world seems especially tribal and explosive.
