The last session of the Islamic College’s monthly lecture series on “Humor in Islam and Muslim Civilization” was held on January 18.
Muslims today are stereotyped as humorless. Grim images of burning flags and besieged embassies are printed over and over again to represent Muslims. As a result, an entire civilization and culture is regarded as merciless… and also devoid of humor.
This presentation explored Muslim humor across the ages. It began by looking at modern texts and websites; and concluded with an exploration of hadith.
Yasmin Amin is finalizing a PhD at the University of Exeter on “Humor and Laughter in the Hadith”.

Dr. Fuad Sahin was named to the Order of Canada by Governor General Julie Payette on December 29, 2017. He had previously received the Order of Ontario in 2009. Originally from Turkey, Dr. Sahan immigrated to Canada in 1958 with his family and served as a medical intern in Kingston. He then settled in Niagara in 1966, serving as a urologist, associated with the Greater Niagara General Hospital in Niagara Falls until he retired.
Dr. Sahin was served at Toronto's first mosque on Dundas Street.
He is best known as the founder of the Islamic charity, the International Development and Relief Foundation (IDRF). He has also been active in interfaith dialogue with Christian and Jewish communities...

دین و سیاست در هیچ برهه زمانی از یکدیگر جدا نبودهاند و همواره در ارتباطی تنگاتنگ با هم قرار داشتهاند. حضور برجسته و روزافزون دین در صحنه جهانی تا حد زیادی به سیاسی شدن آن در مقاطع مختلف باز میگردد. در اوایل سال 2000 میلادی گرِیس دِیوی در پایاننامه خود به تازهواردان به ویژه مهاجران مسلمان، به عنوان عوامل چالشبرانگیز حکومتهای سکولار اروپا اشاره میکند. طرفداران جناح راست و مجامع سیاسی ضد اسلامی در سراسر اروپا، در واکنش به مسلمانشدن بخشهای مختلف جامعه، برخاستهاند.

But while the share of American Muslim adults who are converts to Islam also is about one-quarter (23%), a much smaller share of current Christians (6%) are converts.
The same 2017 survey asked converts from Islam to explain, in their own words, their reasons for leaving the faith.
And roughly one-in-five cited a reason specific to their experience with Islam, such as being raised Muslim but never connecting with the faith (9%) or disagreeing with the teachings (7%) of Islam...
