Dear Learners,

 

As part of the extracurricular student activities, we had triggered a student-lecture series from March 31. We have already conducted two sessions in which working professionals from the program joined as part of a panel to discuss the ‘Relevance of BSc degree in their current professional role’.

 

Both these sessions were attended by more than 300 students, and we observed several insightful discussions happening between panelists and listeners. To extend this further, we have created a ‘Google Currents’ community where we will be engaging in focussed asynchronous discussions around the key emerging themes from these sessions. The community activities will be moderated by Dr. Jayakrishnan from our side.

Dear Learners,

 

To encourage more interaction and activities among learners of the program IIT Madras BSc Team is grouping all the registered learners into 12 houses. We have also come up with a draft document that explains the formation of the houses, the organizational structure, and roles inside each house, the various activity clubs that can be created inside each house, the interaction frequencies, the communication tools to be used inside each house for ensuring better interactions.

A gentle reminder on announcing the group leader.
Each group should look at electing a group leader (and a standby leader in case the group leader is elected for an executive council post) through consensus in the subsequent days.

Since the Group leaders are a critical part of the entire setup, there should be clear plans and ideas on how the group leader is going to interact and engage with other group members during the term (loosely similar to an election manifesto).

This is regarding selection of Group Leaders. Please read the following carefully and act suitably as we want to close this process as soon as possible.

Dear Candidate,

The qualifier exam, originally scheduled for April 25, 2021, could not be conducted because of the current situation in the country caused by
the pandemic. At this point, it is unclear when a nationwide exam can be organized safely. Keeping the safety of everyone and the interests of
candidates in mind, we offer you two options.

1. OPTION 1 [Defer to September term]: You can wait and appear for the qualifier exam, assuming that the situation improves and we can
organize the exam in the June/July/August timeframe. Upon successfully clearing the qualifier, you will register for courses in the term that
begins in Sep 2021. We will provide advance notice of 2 weeks or so when announcing the exam.

2. OPTION 2 [Tentatively continue in May term]: You can tentatively continue to study courses of your interest from Week 5 onwards in the
May-July 2021 term. Assuming that the situation improves and exams are possible in June/July/August timeframe, you will attempt the qualifier
and your other course exams when conducted. If you successfully clear the qualifier exam, you will gain admission to the program from May
term, and you will formally register for courses.


      a) No additional fee will be charged for tentatively continuing
in the May term.
      b) Tentative continuation in the May term is not to be construed as
admission to the programme.
      c) If you do not clear the qualifier exam or if the exam cannot
be conducted, you will not get any credit or consideration for your
work in courses in the May-July term.

We will send out a more detailed form in the next few days. Please
fill the form and select an option that is suitable for you.
