In his special address at the concluding session of the two-day workshop on Developing Best Practices for Quality Assurance in Open, Distance and Online Learning, Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), provided a comprehensive overview of the NAAC framework. He outlined the background of NAAC as an accrediting body and discussed key aspects such as programme and institution-level accreditation, outcome-based education, and international benchmarks like the Washington Accord. Highlighting curriculum design, teaching-learning processes, employment outcomes, and metrics parameters, he further emphasized the importance of publications, patents, and the accredited system followed by NAAC, which includes both the binary accreditation model and the maturity-based graded levels model. Prof. Sahasrabudhe also drew attention to the role of the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), the emerging need for accrediting Open, Distance and Online Learning (ODL), and mechanisms like peer team visits and online institutional evaluations. Stressing the relevance of curriculum updates, study material comprehension, robust standards of evaluation, and the integration of artificial intelligence in ODL, he underscored the importance of aligning accreditation practices with the evolving landscape of higher education.
