The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) observed the 30th Prof. G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture, celebrating the extraordinary legacy of its Founding Vice Chancellor, Prof. G. Ram Reddy — a pioneer of open and distance education in India. The keynote address was delivered by Shri Suman Bery, Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog, who spoke on the compelling theme: “Building a Future-Ready Workforce: Education, Skills, and the Digital Transition.”
Shri Suman Bery, Vice Chairperson, NITI Aayog on the Occasion of the 30th Prof. G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture said, “In today’s rapidly evolving world of work, driven by digital transformation and technological disruption, India must prepare its human capital for not only jobs of the future but for continuous, lifelong learning. Our policy priorities must reflect this urgency: stronger skilling ecosystems, equitable access to digital tools, and proactive reskilling for youth, women, and informal workers alike. As India aims to become a developed economy by 2047, our demographic dividend gives us an unprecedented opportunity. However, productivity, inclusion, and innovation must go hand in hand. Prof. Reddy believed that education is not merely a means to employment—it is a means to empowerment. That principle must guide our collective efforts in building Viksit Bharat.
On Prof. G. Ram Reddy's contributions as a pioneering architect of India’s distance education revolution, Shri Suman Bery said "He championed an inclusive, learner-centric model of education that broke barriers of geography, class, and opportunity. His legacy is one of radical democratization of knowledge—an ethos that resonates deeply as we envision a future-ready India.His contributions remain foundational in our ongoing pursuit of equity and excellence in education. As we honour his memory today, we are reminded that true nation-building begins with empowering every citizen to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to the country's progress.”
