Mauritius raises flag on Chagos Isalnds - challenging British control

Mauritian PM Pravind Jugnauth described it as an "historic moment" - saying it was time for the UK to cede control. (BBC)

The UK has claimed ownership over the islands since Napoleonic times, but in the 1960s and 1970s it was condemned for forcibly expelling around 1,500 Chagossians to Mauritius and the Seychelles.

In 2019, the International Court of Justice ruled that Britain should return the islands to Mauritius, which was endorsed by the UN.

However, the British Foreign Office dismissed Mauritius’ claims over the islands saying, "The UK has no doubt as to our sovereignty over the British Indian Ocean territory."

Swedish health authorities recommend fourth Covid jab for elderly people

The Public Health Agency said Monday it recommends a fourth booster shot for people 80 or older to strengthen immunity.

Sweden’s chief epidemiologist said the fourth jab “strengthens the protection” against severe disease.

The agency also recommended the second booster for all nursing home residents or those receiving care at a home.
